In the late 1960s, Ontario Airport was a throwback to a bygone era. Located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the airport served only two carriers, Western and Bonanza. Passengers could catch regional flights to San Francisco, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Phoenix and Los Angeles, and that was about it.

WHAT DOES BYGONE MEAN IN ENGLISH?

bygone

Bygone Buses

Bygone Buses was a post-deregulation bus operator based in Biddenden, Kent, England. It operated on local competitive and tendered services in Maidstone, Medway and The Weald of Kent. It emerged from a company called River Valley Coaches, and used an allover red livery. Bygone used some vintage types of buses, as well as many second hand standard buses of the era. Bygone was notable as one of the few public transport operators of the Routemaster bus in Kent, and also for a time operated one of the 5 prototype Leyland Titans, NHG 732P. Bygone operated a mixed fleet of vehicles, with many one-off types, but did own several Bristol LHs and Leyland Nationals, as well as some coaches also used on bus routes. Many vehicles appeared in non-red livery after being pressed into service straight after purchase. Bygone vehicles were known for their often customised paintwork. Bygone provided competition against newly privatised dominant operator, Maidstone & District, with practises by both companies becoming part of the scope of a 1993 Competition Commission inquiry into The supply of bus services in Mid and West Kent.

New York cops are very specific in terms of the way they talk and the way they handle themselves. All these cliches that, as an Englishman, I thought were from a bygone era or were a bit of poetic license with cop shows - the more you hang out with them, the more you realize how real that jargon is.

If you write a book about a bygone period that lies east of the Mississippi River, then it's a historical novel. If it's west of the Mississippi, it's a western, a different category. There's no sense to it.

People often refer to bygone days as a simpler time. Perhaps, more accurately, my grandparents' generation focused better on what mattered. Traffic jams and minor quibbles with my husband Daniel pale in comparison with the worries that were faced on the home front and battlefield during the Second World War.
