WHAT DOES INFECTION MEAN IN ENGLISH?

infection

Infection

Infection is the invasion of a host organism's body tissues by disease-causing organisms, their multiplication, and the reaction of host tissues to these organisms and the toxins they produce. Infectious diseases, also known as transmissible diseases or communicable diseases, comprise clinically evident illness resulting from the infection, presence and growth of pathogenic biological agents in an individual host organism. Infections are caused by infectious agents such as viruses, viroids, and prions, microorganisms such as bacteria, nematodes such as roundworms and pinworms, arthropods such as ticks, mites, fleas, and lice, fungi such as ringworm, and other macroparasites such as tapeworms. Hosts can fight infections using their immune system. Mammalian hosts react to infections with an innate response, often involving inflammation, followed by an adaptive response. Pharmaceuticals can also help fight infections. The branch of medicine that focuses on infections and pathogens is infectious disease medicine.

Definition of infection in the English dictionary

The first definition of infection in the dictionary is invasion of the body by pathogenic microorganisms. Other definition of infection is the resulting condition in the tissues. Infection is also an infectious disease.

10 QUOTES WITH «INFECTION»

Famous quotes and sentences with the word infection.
1

The idea of infection began to be taken far more seriously than it ever had before. Hospitals transformed themselves in response to the new plague - sometimes for the better, but often for the worse, as when, in fear, they cast their ulcerated patients out into the streets.
2
Seth Berkley
Now, when you get a viral infection, what normally happens is it takes days or weeks for your body to fight back at full strength, and that might be too late. When you're pre-immunized, what happens is you have forces in your body pre-trained to recognize and defeat specific foes. So that's really how vaccines work.
3
Mayim Bialik
I've never had a sinus infection or been on antibiotics since cutting out dairy.
4

A culture is like an immune system. It operates through the laws of systems, just like a body. If a body has an infection, the immune system deals with it. Similarly, a group enforces its norms, either actively or passively.
7
Alexander Cockburn
A childish soul not inoculated with compulsory prayer is a soul open to any religious infection.
8
Paul Davies
Astonishingly, in spite of decades of research, there is no agreed theory of cancer, no explanation for why, inside almost all healthy cells, there lurks a highly efficient cancer subroutine that can be activated by a variety of agents - radiation, chemicals, inflammation and infection.
9
Philip Emeagwali
One out of every 100 American men is HIV positive. The rate of infection has reached epidemic proportions in 40 developing nations.
