Botocudos

The term botocudos is the name given by the Portuguese to the Indians belonging to groups of diverse linguistic affiliations and geographical regions, due to the use of lips and ear discs. Also called aimorés, they belonged to the group Macro-Gê and lived from the south of the present Brazilian state of Bahia to the north of Espirito Santo and the region of the valley of the river Doce. Botocudos still exist in the basins of the rivers Mucuri and Pardo. El término botocudos es la denominación dada por los portugueses a los indígenas pertenecientes a grupos de diversas filiaciones lingüísticas y regiones geográficas, debido al uso de discos labiales y auriculares. También llamados aimorés, pertenecían al grupo Macro-Gê y vivían desde el sur del actual estado brasileño de Bahía hasta el norte de Espírito Santo y la región del valle del e río Doce. Todavía existen botocudos en las cuencas de los ríos Mucuri y Pardo.
