Cornucopia

Cornucopia

The cornucopia, in Spanish also known as horn of abundance, is a symbol of prosperity and affluence dating from the fifth century BC. C. In Greek mythology, the goat Amalthea raised Zeus with his milk. As a child, while playing with one of his beams, Zeus broke - unwittingly - one of the horns of the goat. To compensate Amaltea, the broken horn gave him power so that whoever possessed it would be granted everything he desired. From there came the legend of cornucopia. The original representations were of the horn of the goat full of fruits and flowers. Several deities, especially Fortuna, were represented with the horn of plenty. More modern images, such as those used in Thanksgiving murals, show a wicker basket shaped like a horn full of fruits and vegetables. In other modern representations, the cornucopia is basically a hollow, hollow, bottomless cone, typically filled with various types of fruit. It is used in the shield of Colombia, where they appear two cornucopias, one stuffed of fruits and exotic flowers of the country and another one full of gold coins.
