Herropea

Herropea

It is called clutches, harropea or herropea to the shackle that is put in the feet of the prisoners. In Asturias, they call farropea and in Galicia, ferropea and a thick chain that is thrown to the prisoners grabbed to the shackle of a foot. Covarrubias in his Treasury says that it is a kind of wives and prisons that are put in the hands with an iron barilla, which grabs in the collar of the neck and that of this sort of wives used the Moors with the captives that brought in the So they could not eat the flour. And this voice derives from the Greek cardopion, which means ring surrounded by the neck and grasped from behind by the hands so that they can not reach the mouth. It seems that Covarrubias was wrong and that the voice ramps, from where it comes clings is composed of iron and foot and consequently does not mean handcuffs, but crickets of the feet. Compes. Bobad. Political. Lib. 3. chap. 15. núm. 11. I have only practiced in case of blasphemy to give the town hall. To another that is not proper to the judges, and to the gentlemen, putting a guard to them .... else of the clothes, as is customary.
