Masada

Masada

Masada (also spelled as Massada or Masadá, Romanization of the Hebrew מצדה, Metzada (? · I), מצודה, metzuda, "fortress") is the name given to a set of palaces and fortifications located on the amesetada summit of an isolated mountain In the eastern desert region of Judea, near the southwestern coast of the Dead Sea, and within the boundaries of the Tamar Regional Council in the Southern District of Israel. Masada is known for its outstanding importance in the final compass of the First Jewish-Roman War (also known as the Great Jewish Revolt), when the siege of the fortress by the Roman Empire finally led its defenders to make a Collective suicide by warning that defeat was imminent. At present, Masada is a prominent tourist site, while possessing an important symbolic burden for Jewish nationalism, as one of the last episodes of national affirmation and resistance before the definitive diaspora.
