WHAT DOES MONOCYTE MEAN IN FRENCH?

monocyte

Monocytes are leukocytes of the agranulocyte family that evolve into macrophages or dendritic cells or osteoclasts. The precursors of these cells are found in the red bone marrow in the form of monoblasts that evolve into promonocytes. The resulting phagocytes are responsible for phagocytosis and are present in the blood and in some tissues. They belong to the family of mononuclear phagocytes. These are the largest cells circulating in the blood. Round or oval, they measure between 15 and 25 microns and reach up to 40 micrometers in diameter. Their number is variable, physiologically less than 1000 / mm, as their life span, ranging from a few days to a few months. At May-Grünwald Giemsa, its cytoplasm acquires a gray-blue or pale-gray coloration known as a "stormy sky". It has very fine basophil granulations called azurophilic and numerous lysosomes. Its nucleus is of variable form, rather eccentric and possesses a chromatin called "combed", little condensed with a fibrillar arrangement.
