जिससे बह द्रव्य विकृत, कोमल या द्रव हो जाय ।
विशेष—यह विश्लषण किसी द्रव्य के बहुत दिनों तक यों ही अथवा
जल, तेजाब आदि में पड़े रहने, गरमी या आँच लगने अथवा
किसी और प्रकार के संयोग के कारण हो जाता है । जैसे—
आँच के द्वारा सोने, चाँदी आदि का गलना; जल में बताशे,
मिट्टी आदि का गलना; गरम जल की आँच में दाल चावल
आदि का गलना, तेजाब में दवा या खनिज पदार्थों का गलना;
कीटाणुओं के संयोग से ( कोढ़ आदि व्याधियों में) शरीर
के अंगों, और बहुत अधिक पकने या अधिक समय तक पड़े
रहने के कारण फल पत्तों आदि का सड़कर गलना ।
२. बहुत जीर्ण होना । जैसे, कपड़ा या कागज गलना । ३.
शरीर का दुर्बल होना । बदन सूखना । जैसे—आठ दिन की
बीमारी में बिलकुल गल गए । ४. बहुत अधिक सरदी के
कारण हाथ पैर का ठिठुरना । जैसे,—आज सरदी के मारे
हाथ गल रहे हैं । ५. वृथा या निष्फल होना । बेकाम होना ।
नष्ट होना । जैसे,—दाँव गलना, मोहरा गलना ।
मुहा०—कोठी गलना = कुएँ या पुल के खंभे में जमवट या गोले के ऊपर की जोड़ाई का नीचे धँसना । चीनी गलना= मिठाई
आदि बनाने के लिये चीनी का कड़ाही में ढ़ाल जाना ।
नाम पर गलना पु = प्रिय को प्राप्त करने के लिये अनेक
कष्ट सहन । उ०—गलों तुम्हारे नाम पर ज्यों आटे में नोन,
