दस भेद किए है । (क) इष्ट, जैसे कस्तूरी आदि की । (ख)
अनिष्ट, जैसे मुर्दें आदि की । (ग) मधुर; जैसी मधु, फूल
आदि की । (घ) अम्ल, जैसी आम, आँवले की । (च) कटु,
जैसी मिर्च आदि की । (छ) निहारी, जैसी हींग आदि में ।
(ज) संहत, जैसी चित्रगंध की । (झ) स्निग्ध जैसी घी की ।
(ट) रूक्ष, जैसे सरसों राई आदि की । (ठ) विशद, जैसी
चावल आदि की ।
२. सुगंध । सुवास ।
विशेष—इसे लोगों ने पाँच प्रकार की माना है । (क) चूर्णाकृत,
(ख) घृष्ट, (ग) दाहाकर्षित (घ) संमर्दज और (ङ)
प्राण्योंगेदभव ।
३. सुगंधित द्रव्य जो शरीर में लगाया जाय । जैसे,—चंदन आदि
का लेप । ४. लेश । अणुमात्र । संस्कार । संबंध । जैसे, —
उसमें भलमंसाहत की गंध भी नहीं है । उ०—जेहि धंध
जाकर मन बसे सपने सूझ सो गंध । तेहि कारन तपसी तप
साधहि करहि प्रेम चित वंध । जायसी (शब्द०) । ५.
