बहेड़ या अर्जुन की जाति का एक बड़ा पेड़ ।
विशेष—यह भारतवर्ष के जंगलों में प्रायः सर्वत्र होता है । इसके
पत्ते बहेड़े के पत्तों के समान चौड़े होते हैं जो शिशिर
ऋतु में झड़ जाते हैं । फल भी बहेडे़ के समान होते हैं और
कहीं कहीं चमडा़ सिझाने के काम में आते हैं । लकड़ी इसकी
मजबूत होती है और मकानों में लगती है । गाडी, नाव और
मूसल आदि भी इस लकड़ी के अच्छे होते हैं । इसकी छाल से
पीला रंग बनता है । रंग के अतिरिक्त छाल दवा के काम
में आती है । लाख भी इसमें लगता है । छोटा नागपुर
और सिंहभूमि के आसपास के कोए पियासाल के पेड़ों
पर पाले जाते हैं । वैद्यक में पियासाल कोढ़, विसप, प्रमेह,
कृमि, कफ और रक्तपित्त को दूर करनेवाला तथा त्वचा और
कोशों को हितकारी माना गया है । इसे सज भी कहते हैं ।
