एक सुगंधित घास का नाम । भूतृण ।

विशेष—यह घास नेपाल, शिमला, अलमोड़ा, काश्मीर, पंजाब,
राजमहल, मध्यप्रदेश के पहाड़ी प्रदेशों, बंबई और मद्रास के
पर्वतों में होती है । इस घास से गुलाब की सी सुगंध आती है
और इसका तेल निकाला जाता है । इसकी प्रधान दो जातियाँ
होती हैं । एक का फूल सफेद और दूसरी का फूल नीले रंग का
होता है । जब यह घास नरम रहती है, तब इसकी पत्तियों का
रंग नीलापन लिए होता है, पर पकने पर उनका रंग लाल हो
जाता है । जब इसकी पत्तिया नरम होती हैं, तब इसे
'मोतिया' कहते हैं; और जब पककर लाल हो जाती हैं, तब
उन्हें 'सौंफिया' कहते हैं । सावन भादा में यह फूलने लगती है
और कार्तिक अगहन तक फूलती है । इसी समय इसकी पत्तियाँ
तेल निकालने के योग्य हो जाती हैं । जब घास फूलने लगती
है, तब काट ली जाती है और इसकी छोटी छोटी पूलियाँ बाँध
ली जाती हैं । तेल निकालते समय देग में पानी भरकर ढाई
तीन सौ पूलियाँ उसमें छोड़ दी जाती हैं । फिर देग पर सरपोश
लगा देते हैं, जिसमें दो नलियाँ, जो तीन चार अंगुल मोटी और
चार हाथ लंबी होती हैं, लगी रहती हैं । यह देग आग पर
रख दिया जाता है और नलियों का सिरा ताबे के दो घड़ों के
मुँह से लगा दिया जाता है, जो पानी में डूबे रहते हैं । इस
प्रकार घास का आसव खींचा जाता है । जब आसव निकल
आता है, तब उसे एक चौड़े मुँह के बरतन में उंडेल लेते हैं ।
इस बरतन में रूसे का अर्क थोड़ी देर तक रहता है और तेल
छोटे चम्मच से धीरे धीरे ऊपर से काछ लिया जाता है । यह
तेल गुलाब के अतर में मिलाया जाता है और इसमें ताड़पीन
