Widia, also known as cemented carbide, Carboloy or hard metal, is a material used in mechanical machining consisting of hard tungsten carbide particles embedded in a metallic matrix. It is produced through the sintering process, ie fine powders of the components are mixed, pressed and then heated, maintaining a high pressure so that the powder granules unite to form a single piece. This means that hard metals are not real metals, but carbides bound by a metal. The name Widia derives from the registered trademark of Krupp who invented this material in 1926 and called it Wie Diamant. The carbides used are mostly tungsten carbide, titanium and tantalum carbide. If titanium carbide prevails and cobalt is replaced with nickel, the material is called Cermet. If the hard metal components or similar elements are merged by merging, they are stars.

Il Widia, anche conosciuto come carburo cementato, Carboloy o metallo duro, è un materiale utilizzato nelle lavorazioni meccaniche consistente di particelle dure di carburo di tungsteno inglobate in una matrice metallica. Viene prodotto attraverso il processo della sinterizzazione, cioè polveri fini delle componenti vengono mescolate, pressate e poi riscaldate mantenendo una pressione alta in modo che i granuli delle polveri si uniscano a formare un pezzo unico. Questo significa che i metalli duri non sono metalli veri e propri, ma carburi legati da un metallo. La denominazione gergale Widia deriva dal marchio registrato della Krupp che inventò nel 1926 questo materiale e lo chiamò Wie Diamant. I carburi utilizzati sono per lo più carburo di tungsteno, di titanio e di tantalio. Se prevale il carburo di titanio e il cobalto viene sostituito con nickel, il materiale viene denominato Cermet. Se i componenti dei metalli duri o elementi simili vengono uniti tramite fusione, si tratta di stelliti.
