Kerkira Toru [Kerkira Island] "Kerkira / Κρκυρα" Western Greece, an island in the Ionian Sea. In the northern part of the Ionian Islands, it faces Albania across the Kerkira Strait. Italian name and English name Corfu, Latin name Korcula island. Central city is east coast of Kerkira. Since ancient Roman times, it flourished as a base for sea trade to the east. It has long been dominated by the Republic of Venice from the end of the 14th century until the end of the 18th century, so its influence remains strong. ケルキラ‐とう【ケルキラ島】 《Kerkira／Κρκυρα》ギリシャ西部、イオニア海にある島。イオニア諸島の北部、ケルキラ海峡を隔ててアルバニアと対する。イタリア語名および英語名コルフ島、ラテン語名コルキュラ島。中心都市は東岸のケルキラ。古代ローマ時代より、東方への海上交易の拠点として栄えた。14世紀末から18世紀末までベネチア共和国に長く支配されたため、その影響が強く残っている。
