Mtsu Hetera
Mtsuheta (Georgian in მცხეთა, Mtskheta) is the ancient capital of Georgia. It is 20 km northwest of the capital Tbilisi. The population is 7,600 (2004). The town spreads near the confluence point of the Kura River and the Aragvy River. Mutsuheta was the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia (3rd to 6th centuries BC) until King Wohutang I of the 5th century (Wohtang Gorgasari) transited to Tbilisi. The Zihuari monastery (6th century) located on the mountain overlooking the town and the Sveti Tzuhoveli church (11th century) located in the center of the town are famous. In Sveti Tuzhoveli church there is the tomb of King Millian King and his wife Nana who tried Christianity as a state tribe in 337. Several religious buildings of Mtskheta are registered as UNESCO's World Heritage in the name of "Mtskheta's historical building group".
