It is also used for the treatment of neuralgia because of analgesic action.

적색광선요법 적색의 단색광선을 사용하는 요법이다. 옛날, 두창환자(痕瘡患者)에게 적색광선요법을 사용된 일이 있으며, 이것은 역사적으로도 유명하다. 적색광선은 760~650㎛까지의 비교적 파장이 긴 가시광선으로 비교적 조직의 심부까지 투과할 수 있다. 또 적색광선은 신경계에 대하여 흥분작용을 가지기 때문에 우울증의 환자에게 사용되고 내분비선에도 작용하기 때문에, 월경과도나 월경곤란증, 불임증 등에도 응용된다. 염증의 저지작용이 있기 때문에 습진이나 두창에도 사용된다. 또 진통 작용도 있으므로 신경통의 치료에도 사용된다.
