carnival
Carnival (festival) is a popular festival held in middle of February every year in Europe and South America. Carnival means strictly speaking the period from the Buddhist temple (January 6, Lord's public consecration / Catholicism, Epiphany / Protestant) to the oily Tuesday (Mardi gras), but actually the meaning changes slightly, It means various events held during the period. The tradition of opening festivals during this period is due to the idea that after this period, Lent, which is the period of forbearance, breeding, and temperance, begins, we should be able to enjoy ourselves before we eat. In carnevale, which means carnival, it means "forbid meat" (謝 肉). This word is a compound word consisting of carne (meat, flesh) and levare (ridiculous, riding), from which the French carnaval, the Spanish carnaval, the English carnival, and the German Karneval.
