Biochemistry or also known as biological chemistry is a study of the chemical processes in and pertaining to living organisms. By controlling biochemical signal flow and chemical energy flows through metabolism, biochemistry enables the existence of a complex life. Biochemistry also explains the life process of almost every life sciences field including botanicals and medicine that are closely related to biochemical research. The focus of pure biochemistry studies today focuses on the understanding of biological molecules in allowing the chemical processes that occur in living cells, which in turn illustrates the life of an organism in a comprehensive way. Biochemistry is closely related to molecular biology, which is the study of molecular mechanisms that occur when genetic information encoded in DNA is able to contribute to the process of life. Depending on the exact definition of the term used, molecular biology can be regarded as a biochemical branch, or included in biochemistry as a tool for investigating and studying molecular biology. Biokimia atau juga dikenali sebagai kimia biologi merupakan kajian proses kimia dalam dan berkenaan dengan organisma hidup. Melalui pengawalan aliran isyarat biokimia dan aliran tenaga kimia melalui metabolisme, biokimia membolehkan kewujudan hidupan yang kompleks. Biokimia turut menjelaskan proses kehidupan hampir semua bidang sains hayat termasuklah botani dan perubatan yang berkait rapat dengan penyelidikan biokimia. Tumpuan kajian biokimia tulen pada hari ini berfokus terhadap kefahaman molekul biologi dalam membolehkan proses kimia yang berlaku dalam sel hidup, yang seterusnya menerangkan kehidupan sesuatu organisma dengan menyeluruh. Biokimia berkait rapat dengan biologi molekul, iaitu pengajian mekanisma molekular yang berlaku apabila informasi genetik yang dikodkan dalan DNA mampu menyumbang dalam proses kehidupan.
