Literacy
Literacy definitions typically refer to the ability to read and write, or language ability to read, write, hear, and speak. In a more precise context, literacy means being able to read and write at an adequate level to communicate, or a level that allows one to understand and express views in literate societies in order to socialize in society. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has outlined its definition as follows: "'Literacy' is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, calculate and use printed and written material in context. to enable an individual to achieve his goals, to grow his knowledge and potential, and to participate in the wider society in full. " In modern times, illiteracy is seen as a social problem that needs to be addressed through education.
