Malaysia

Malaysia

Malaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy in Southeast Asia comprising thirteen states and three federal territories, occupying 329,847 square kilometers of land. Malaysia is divided into two areas flanking the South China Sea, namely Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo Malaysia. Malaysia shares land borders with Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei as well as marine boundaries with Singapore and the Philippines. The capital of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur, while Putrajaya is the federal government's center. In 2009, Malaysia occupied 28 million people. Malaysia has the roots of the Malay Kingdoms that existed in its territory and became the conquest of the British Empire since the 18th century. The first British territory here is known as the Straits Settlements. The Malay Peninsula, then known as Malaya or Malaya, was first consolidated under the Commonwealth in 1946, before becoming the Federation of Malaya in 1948. In 1963, Malaya united with Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore. In 1965, Singapore came out of the fellowship to become a free city state.
