Afasia

Afasia is a type of illness caused by brain nerve damage, thereby disabling one's ability to communicate. The problem of afasia is different from dyslexia. Important signs of afasia are the difficulty of communicating verbatim, difficulty understanding the conversation of others, and difficulty reading and writing. Afasia is usually caused by damage to the central brain language and can be caused by stroke or physical injury. Depending on the area and level of injury, one may be able to speak but not write, or vice versa, or understand the more complicated verses from what they can produce. The injured child's brain sometimes reshapes to use other parts for speech processing, and retrieves lost function; the adult brain is less "flexible" and the absence of this ability.

Afasia merupakan sejenis penyakit yang disebabkan oleh kerosakan saraf otak, dengan itu akan melumpuhkan kebolehan seseorang untuk berkomunikasi. Masalah afasia adalah berbeza dengan disleksia. Tanda penting pengidap afasia adalah kesukaran berkomunikasi secara pertuturan, kesukaran memahami percakapan orang lain, dan kesukaran untuk membaca dan menulis. Afasia biasanya disebabkan oleh kerosakan kepada pusat bahasa otak dan boleh disebabkan oleh angin ahmar atau kecederaan fizikal. Bergantung kepada kawasan dan tahap kecederaan, seseorang itu mungkin mampu bercakap tetapi tidak menulis, atau sebaliknya, ataupun memahami ayat yang lebih rumit dari apa yang mereka mampu hasilkan.
