Zapin dance is a traditional Malay folk dance. This dance is inspired by the Arabic role and is derived from Yemen. Zapin dance has been widely spread amongst the dancers in the Malay archipelago, which is in Malen Peninsula, Borneo and comparable island clusters which have been active from nowadays as in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia. Zapin has undergone modifications in terms of the shape and variety that turns out to be more traditional in nature. Thus the Zapin dance usually has its own breakdown according to where it was taken, among which are: ▪ Zapin Arab Dance ▪ Johor Zapin Dance ▪ Lenga Zapin Dance ▪ Zapin Dance of Pekan ▪ Zapin Tenglu Dance Dance of Zapin is concerned with group movement rather than individual effort. Among the musical instruments that accompany the Zapin dance are gambus, tambourines, drums, rebabs and marakas. The violin does not belong to a Zapin dance musical instrument but there is a wrong assumption among the people. This is because the music produced by the rebab has a similarity to the friction of the violin.

Tarian Zapin merupakan sejenis tarian rakyat Melayu tradisional. Tarian ini diilhamkan oleh peranakan Arab dan dikatakan berasal dari Yaman. Tarian zapin telah menular luas di kalangan penggemar seni tari di Nusantara iaitu di Semenjung Tanah Melayu, Borneo dan gugusan pulau yang sebanding yang mana bergiat aktif dari dulu hingga kini seperti di Malaysia, Brunei, Singapura dan Indonesia. Zapin telah mengalami pengubahsuaian dari segi bentuk dan ragamnya yang ternyata lebih tradisional sifatnya. Dengan itu tarian Zapin biasanya mempunyai pecahan tersendiri menurut tempat ia ditarikan, antaranya adalah: ▪ Tarian Zapin Arab ▪ Tarian Zapin Johor ▪ Tarian Zapin Lenga ▪ Tarian Zapin Pekan ▪ Tarian Zapin Tenglu Tarian Zapin mementingkan pergerakan berkumpulan dan bukannya usaha individu. Antara peralatan muzik yang mengiringi tarian Zapin adalah gambus, rebana, gendang, rebab dan marakas. Biola tidak tergolong sebagai sejenis alat muzik tarian Zapin namun terdapat anggapan salah dalam kalangan rakyat. Ini disebabkan muzik yang dihasilkan rebab mempunyai persamaan dengan gesekan biola.
