Ayrshire

History, Landmarks, Guide, Map, Photos Ayrshire is a village and civil parish in the Scottish Firth of Clyde. The name of the county comes from the city of Ayr, the former capital. The county is predominantly lowland, to the south and east. In Ayrshire three smaller tributaries - Cunninghame, Kyle and Carrick - were identified. The major towns in the region are, next to Ayr, Kilmarnock, Irvine, Kilwinning, Prestwick and Troon. Ayrshire is a heavily used agricultural area. In the past, coal mining, metallurgy and textiles also played an important role in this area. Today the county is subdivided into three administrative units: North Ayrshire, East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire. In addition, a small portion of Ayrshire is in the Dumfries and Galloway area. Ayrshire – hrabstwo historyczne w południowo-zachodniej Szkocji, położone nad zatoką Firth of Clyde. Główne miasta w regionie to, obok Ayr, Kilmarnock, Irvine, Kilwinning, Prestwick i Troon.
