Lancashire is a town and civil parish in the north west of England, in the North West England region, located on the Irish Sea and Morecambe Bay. The area of ​​the ceremonial county is 3079 km², and the administrative area is 2903 km². Lancashire has 1,460,900 inhabitants and Lancashire has the status of city - Preston, the largest city and county administrative center, and Lancaster, the historic capital of Lancashire. Other major towns in the county are Blackpool, Blackburn, Burnley and Morecambe. Lancashire is one of the historic counties, and its origins date back to the Middle Ages. Powierzchnia hrabstwa ceremonialnego wynosi 3079 km², a administracyjnego – 2903 km². Jako hrabstwo ceremonialne Lancashire liczy 1 460 900 mieszkańców, a jako jednostka administracyjna – 1 171 300. Dwa miasta na terenie Lancashire posiadają status city – Preston, największe miasto i ośrodek administracyjny hrabstwa, oraz Lancaster, historyczna stolica Lancashire. Innymi większymi miastami na terenie hrabstwa są Blackpool, Blackburn, Burnley oraz Morecambe. Lancashire jest jednym z hrabstw historycznych, a jego początki sięgają średniowiecza. W przeszłości hrabstwo zajmowało większy obszar, obejmując m.in. miasta Liverpool i Manchester oraz półwysep Furness. Zachodnia, nadmorska część hrabstwa jest nizinna, zaś wschodnią zajmują wyżyny, m.in. Forest of Bowland oraz zachodni skraj Gór Pennińskich.
