epilimnion

Epilimnion

Epilimnion - top layer of water in the lake. In summer, it is a layer of thickness from several to several meters of heated water, whose temperature gradually decreases with depth. The main process of producing organic matter from mineral substances takes place here in conjunction with the sun's rays. The organic matter is algae. Only epilimnion has the ability to capture and process incoming and outgoing food particles into organic matter. This area is the export of organic matter to the lower layers of water. In the winter, due to the change in water density, this is the coldest part of the reservoir. Epilimnion is saturated or saturated with oxygen, because photosynthesis processes are taking place and there is no organic anaerobic degradation.
