hijra

Hidżra

Hijra (tah); Muhammad and the first Muslims had to leave the city because of persecution and lack of favor from Abu Lahab, his uncle Mohammed, who took over the leadership of the Hasimah. Emigration was followed by small groups; Mecca totaled about 70 people. Last, September 24, 622, Mecca left Mohammed with his adviser and friend Abu Bakr. The refugees accompany Mohammed, called muhajjir (Arab mahajiruns) who, because of their merits for religion, then occupied the highest positions in the umma, the first municipality of Islamic followers. The beginning of the year in which the hijra took place on July 16, 622, several decades after the death of the Prophet, during the reign of Caliph Omar, was considered to be the beginning of the Muslim era. From that point on, the years are counted in the Muslim calendars and the Iranian calendar.
