Cypraea coin

Cypraea moneta

Cypraea coin - porcelain grade. It reaches from 10 to 44 mm, typically around 20-25 mm. The most common species of porcelain, occurs in a large area, the population is estimated at hundreds of billions of individuals. Cypraea was used in the past as a payroll - a surrogate of money. The "mint" of this porcelain currency was the Maldives, also known as the "islands of kauri". It is assumed that C. coin as a means of payment was first used in China in the 15th-16th centuries, and in other parts of Asia even as early as the eleventh century. In the 18th century, slaves were bought for slaves, which were later sold in America - this operation brought huge profits to the English and Dutch. In modern times, C. coin is used on a large scale in the souvenir industry - the items made of it are a constant element of stalls and shops in tourist destinations. Kauri also has a small connection with Poland - its shells are used by Polish highlanders to decorate their hats, which are part of their traditional folk costume. Cypraea moneta - gatunek porcelanki.
