Priapeia

Priapea

Priapea - in short epigrams, with more or less obscene content, dedicated to the god Priap. As a literary genre they come from short, anonymous poems, written on the Priam hermitage or the walls of the chapel devoted to him. The first poems dedicated to Priap, unchallenged to our times, were created by the Greek poet Eufronios of Chersonez. Prieto also wrote Leonidas from Taranto. At the end of the republic's existence, poems dedicated to Priap became popular in Rome. One of the first Priapas was the work of Katullus. The most popular of the Priape in Roman literature took place during the reign of Augustus. Priap poems were written at the time. Horace and Tibullus. At that time, an anonymous collection of 85 Priapes was created in the circle of poets gathered around the patron. These works, stylized for folk poetry, are a testimony of the great literary skill of the author, full of references. to Homer or Eratosthenes. In later years, Priapea wrote Martial. Poświęcone Priapowi wiersze napisali wówczas m.in. Horacy i Tibullus. W późniejszych latach Priapea pisał m.in. Marcjalis.
