Zombie - a fictional undead creature especially popular in horror movies. Zombie word probably originated from african zumbi or from nzambi, in Poland it was taken from English; You can also meet the polished zombie form. This term was circulated by William Seabrook in the late 1920s in his book The Magic Island. The term zombie is derived from the voodoo cult, in which a person is strongly enslaved and blindly or unconsciously executing the command of the person controlling it, most often being under the influence of intoxicants. This type of zombie was present in the culture from the second half of the 20th century until the end of the 1960s when George Romer's film Night of the Living Dead was released, in which the zombies were portrayed as undead: a dead person emerging from the grave and struggling To satisfy the blood lust by consuming fresh human flesh or brain.

Termin ten rozpowszechnił William Seabrook pod koniec lat 20. XX wieku w swojej książce The Magic Island. Pojęcie zombie wywodzi się z kultu voodoo, w którym oznacza osobę silnie zniewoloną i ślepo lub nieświadomie wykonującą polecenia osoby kontrolującej ją, najczęściej będąc pod wpływem środków odurzających. Taki typ zombie był obecny w kulturze od drugiej połowy lat 20. XX wieku do prawie końca lat 60., kiedy to powstał film George’a Romera Noc żywych trupów, w którym zombie przedstawiano jako nieumarłego: osobę martwą, powstającą z grobu i starającą się zaspokoić żądzę krwi poprzez konsumpcję świeżego ludzkiego mięsa lub mózgu.
