Aorta

Aorta

Aorta is the name given to the largest and most important artery in the circulatory system of the human body. From it all other arteries of the organism are derived, except for the pulmonary artery. The aorta begins in the heart at the base of the left ventricle and ends at the fourth lumbar vertebra where it divides into the common iliac arteries. It carries oxygenated blood to all parts of the body through the systemic circulation.
