Aspartame or aspartame is a food additive used to replace common sugar and was created in 1965 by the American company G.D. Searle \u0026 Company and subsequently purchased by Monsanto. It has greater sweetening power and is less dense. Aspartame is usually sold along with other products. It is the most used sweetener in beverages. It is chemically formed by the fact that phenylalanine is methylated in the carboxyl group, forming a methyl ester. Aspartame is consumed by more than 200 million people worldwide and is present in more than 6000 products. According to the European nomenclature, aspartame corresponds to sweetener E 951. The acceptable daily intake of aspartame in Europe is 40 mg / kg body weight. In the United States it is 50mg / kg. O aspartamo ou aspartame é um aditivo alimentar utilizado para substituir o açúcar comum e foi criado em 1965 pela empresa americana G.D. Searle & Company e comprada posteriormente pela Monsanto. Ele tem maior poder de adoçar e é menos denso. O aspartamo geralmente é vendido junto com outros produtos. É o adoçante mais utilizado em bebidas. É formado quimicamente por, sendo que a fenilalanina se encontra metilada no grupo carboxílico, formando um éster metílico.. O aspartamo é consumido por mais de 200 milhões de pessoas, em todo o mundo e está presente em mais de 6000 produtos. Segundo a nomenclatura Europeia, o aspartamo corresponde ao edulcorante E 951. A ingestão diária aceitável de aspartamo, na Europa, é de 40mg/kg de peso corporal. Nos Estados Unidos é de 50mg/kg.
