Cardioplegia

Cardioplegia

Cardioplegia is a solution that promotes the stop of the heart beats during cardiac surgery. Such a solution has the function of cardiac protection, in view of the fact that it is rich in potassium and oxygen, thus promoting a cardiac arrest in diastole. These solutions are classified as either normothermic or hot and hypothermic or cold. They may also be sanguineous or crystalloid. They are infused into the heart through the coronary arteries.
