Hemiplegia is paralysis of the sagittal half of the body. It is more serious than hemiparesis which refers only to the difficulty of moving half of the body. It affects about 57 people per 100,000 inhabitants, mainly due to pregnancy or stroke problems, being more frequent in newborns and the elderly. Hemiplegia é a paralisia de metade sagital do corpo. É mais grave que hemiparesia que se refere apenas a dificuldade de movimentar metade do corpo. Atinge cerca de 57 pessoas em cada 100.000 habitantes, principalmente por problemas na gravidez ou por AVC, sendo mais frequente assim em recém-nascidos e idosos.
