Chacona

Chacona

In music, a chacona (from the Italian ciaccona) is a musical genre that uses the musical form based on the variation of a small repeated harmonic progression. Originally, it was a fast dance-song of Spain, with a often coarse text, the chacona, gradually became a slow dance, in ternary compass that arose, initially, in century XVI. Nowadays, chacona is understood, in a somewhat arbitrary way, as a set of variations in a harmonic progression as opposed to variation based on a melodic bass pattern, to which it was similarly artificially identified as a passacaglia). In the history of music, in practice, considering the way in which a piece of music is constructed, the reason for the choice of composers between the terms "chaconne" and "passacaglia" is not so clearly distinguishable. If the standard stereotype of a "classical" chacona could be described, it would be said that it usually (but not always) is in greater pitch, with a ternary measure, begins in the second beat of the measure, and has a four- a close multiple).
