Crust

Crosta

The planetary crust is the outermost layer of the lithosphere of a planet or celestial body. It is a layer of solid rock that is generally less dense than the lower layers. On partially molten planets, such as Earth, the crust floats on lower layers of flowing rock, and if it is thin enough, it breaks into plates moving relative to each other. The upper part of the Earth's crust consists mainly of granite, an igneous rock composed essentially of quartz and feldspars, and its lower part by basalt is also an eruptive igneous rock, consisting mainly of plagioclase and pyroxene and in many cases of olivine.
