A diploma is a document issued by an educational institution, such as a university or polytechnic, which testifies that the person to whom it is awarded successfully completed a given course, or received an academic degree. It must be issued by the higher education institution where the student is finishing his course or has already completed it. In order to have access to the diploma, the student must be almost graduated - that is, enrolled in the disciplines that are missing for the course curriculum discharge - or have completed a course duly recognized and regularized by the MEC. To be valid nationally, stricto sensu postgraduate courses held in foreign higher education institutions must be registered by Brazilian universities that have postgraduate courses recognized and evaluated in the same area of ​​knowledge and at an equivalent or higher level. The diploma can not be charged. The requirement of payment of the diploma by faculties violates various laws, such as Resolution 3/89 of the Federal Council of Education, the School Tuition Act and the Consumer Defense Code.

Um diploma é um documento emitido por uma instituição de ensino, tal como uma universidade ou instituto politécnico, que testemunha que a pessoa a quem é concedido completou com sucesso um determinado curso, ou recebeu um grau académico. Ele deve ser emitido pela instituição de ensino superior em que o estudante está terminando seu curso ou já o concluiu. Para ter acesso ao diploma, o aluno deverá estar quase formado – ou seja, estar matriculado nas disciplinas que faltam para a quitação do currículo do curso – ou ter concluído um curso devidamente reconhecido e regularizado pelo MEC. Para terem validade nacional, cursos de pós-graduação stricto sensu realizados em instituições de ensino superior estrangeiras devem ser registrados por universidades brasileiras que possuam cursos de pós-graduação reconhecidos e avaliados na mesma área de conhecimento e em nível equivalente ou superior. O diploma não pode ser cobrado. A exigência do pagamento do diploma pelas faculdades fere diversas leis, como a Resolução 3/89 do Conselho Federal de Educação, a Lei da Mensalidade Escolar e o Código de Defesa do Consumidor.
