Hemeralopia

Hemeralopia

Hemeralopia, from the Greek ημέρα, hemera - "dia" and αλαός, alaos - blindness, is the term used in English - speaking countries to denote the difficulty in seeing clearly in bright light, also known as daytime blindness. It's just the opposite of nicotopia. Hemera was the Greek goddess of the day and Nix the goddess of the night. However, in other countries the term is used to denote the exact opposite - night blindness. For this reason, the term is ambiguous, since it is used in the Portuguese language in both directions. This article deals with day blindness, to be faithful to the etymology of the word. To search for information about night blindness Main article: Noctalopia.
