WHAT DOES LITOTES MEAN IN PORTUGUESE?

Litotes

Literates consists of a softened or negative phrase to express an affirmation. It is the opposite of hyperbole. It is a figure of language in which a smoothing is made by the denial of the opposite. So as not to say, for example, that a certain individual is stupid, he is said to be unintelligent, or simply not intelligent. This case, which contains a strong dose of irony, is called "litotes." It is good to say that with litotes the expression does not necessarily soften. To say that a person is intelligent, it can be said that he is not stupid: "Your cousin is not dumb at all". According to the dictionary Aurélio the litotes is "way of affirmation by means of the negation of the opposite".
