Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia results in a pain in the front of the foot, in the area of the metatarsal bones. Although it seems that the pain is across the front of the foot, it is usually only in a metatarsal bone. This condition is usually associated with a metatarsal alignment problem. The one who hurts is usually lower than the others, which causes pressure and pain, being easily found, pressing slightly down each of the metatarsals until you find the point that is most painful. A small callus may also be visible in the pathology zone. The pain felt is often associated with pain coming from a stone inside the footwear. It is important to stress that the treatment of this symptomatology, which ends up being characterized in the pathology itself, is always symptomatic, through physiotherapeutic procedures, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and proper use of customized insoles. Experience shows, through statistics, that surgery rarely results in any benefit; on the contrary, it can greatly worsen the painful symptom caused by fibrosis and the increase of points of arthrosis, normal in post-surgical situations.
