Monomania

Monomania

In psychiatry, monomania is a type of paranoia in which the patient has a single idea or type of ideas. Emotional monomania is one in which the patient is obsessed by a single emotion or by several related to one; intellectual monomania is that related to a single kind of delusional idea. In colloquial usage, the term monomania is often linked to a subculture that the general public considers esoteric. However, the differences between monomania and passion can be very subtle and make it difficult to recognize.
