Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau

Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, or simply F. W. Murnau, born Friedrich Wilhelm Plumpe, was one of the most important directors of silent cinema, German expressionist cinema and the Kammerspiel movement. Nosferatu, Eine Symphonie des Grauens, 1922, a personal adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, is the most well-known film of his work together with Der letzte Mann of 1924 and Faust of 1926. In 1926 he emigrated to Hollywood, where before dying he would perform the acclaimed Sunrise of 1927. His last film Tabu was filmed in the Southern Seas, away from the big studios and premiered posthumously. It is considered today a cult film and marks a break with the aesthetics of his previous films. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, ou simplesmente F. W.
