The Nahuatlans, Nahuatlans, or Nahuatlans are members of an indigenous people who inhabit the high Mexican plains and parts of Central America. The Nahuatl was supposed to have originated somewhere in the present southwest of the United States and northwest Mexico, where its branch separated from the other Uto-Aztec peoples and migrated to central Mexico, sometime before 500 AD They settled in the region of the basin of Mexico, and spread, becoming the dominant people. Some of the most important civilizations of Mesoamerica belonged to the Nahuatl people, such as the Toltecs and the Aztecs, as well as the Tepanecas, the Acuhuas, the Tlaxcalans, the Xochimilcas, and others.
