pastinaga

Pistachios sativa

Pastinaca sativa

The cherovia or chirívia or parsnip is a root that is used like vegetable, related to the carrot, although more pale and with more intense flavor than this one. The cultivation dates back to ancient times in Eurasia: before the use of the potato, the cherovia took its place. In Portugal, it is cultivated in the Serra da Estrela region.
