Ponera (orchid)

Ponera (orquídea)

Ponera is a botanical genus belonging to the orchid family. It was proposed by John Lindley in The Genera and Species of Orchidaceous Plants 113-114, in 1831, basing its description on the species Ponera juncifolia Lindley. The name of the genus is a reference to the fact that the flowers of this species are very small compared to the size of the plants. Ponera é um género botânico pertencente à família das orquídeas. Foi proposto por John Lindley em The Genera and Species of Orchidaceous Plants 113-114, em 1831, baseando sua descrição na espécie Ponera juncifolia Lindley. O nome do gênero é uma referência ao fato das flores desta espécie serem muito pequenas em comparação com o tamanho das plantas.
