Priorado

Priory is the designation given to any monastery headed by a prior, although the term is also used by Dominicans, Hermits Augustinians, Carthusians, Carmelites and Servites to designate their abbeys. There is also the separation between convent priories and simple priories or obedience, according to the classification, for example, of the military Orders. The former consist of monasteries not ruled by an abbot because they do not include the twelve monks required for abbey status or for other reasons.
