Teleprinters
Teleimpressor is a telegraphic device that allows the printing of the received message in press characters, by means of keyboard similar to the one of the typewriter. Teleprinters are very robust electromechanical machines, which were used to transmit / receive information in text, point to point or between two terminals of a Telex Switching network, connected by a pair of wires. Teleprinters, for the most part, worked with the 5-bit Baudot code, which limited the available Characters to only 32 codes. Normally the Teleprinter is composed of a Keypad, a Transmitter, a Receiver and a Printer. However, there are others also equipped with a Punch and a Tape Player. Here is an example of the Teleprinter, the Teleprinter T100S from SIEMENS, with two modes of operation: LOCAL MODE and REMOTE MODE. In LOCAL MODE, it functions as a Simple Typewriter. In addition to the function of writing on a sheet of paper, you can also Drill a Paper Tape with a Message at the same time, Figure 2. The Teleprinter can also function as a Tape Reader.
