Timor is an island of the Insulind, politically divided in two halves: East Timor, that constitutes a province of Indonesia, and Timor-Leste, formerly a Portuguese colony, later occupied and annexed by Indonesia in November of 1975, and that became independent in 2002. In Timor-Leste the Portuguese language is spoken by about 5% of the population. The Tetum language predominates and is a co-official language, along with Portuguese.
