Vade Mecum

Vade-mécum

Vade mecum is, in general, a denomination for any reference book of very frequent use and that instructs the reader to do certain tasks. The word originates in a Latin expression that means "come with me", "go with me", where vade is goes in Portuguese, and mecum means with me, and is a Latin term. In Law refers to a compendium of the basic works to be easily consulted. The vade-mecum can be generic, bringing the text of the current Constitution, codes and general laws, but can also be specialized and compile the legislation of a certain area of Law, as is the case of the labor vade mecum or social security or the vade-mecum of bids and contracts. Although it is a work essentially related to law, it does not end in this domain of knowledge, knowing that there are vade mecums in the domains of the Church's social doctrine, political thought, doctrines of security and defense. Many of these works have been known since the fifteenth century, and some of them have known constant updating.
