Weimar is a German city and world heritage site according to UNESCO. It is an independent city or urban district, that is, it has district status. He is particularly known for the great names of German culture that lived here in the times of Romanticism and the Sturm und Drang: Goethe and Schiller, among others, but also, later Nietzsche, the latter when already plagued by madness. In the theater building, situated on the Theaterplatz was proclaimed the Weimar Republic. Goethe wrote about this city saying that "Weimar is not a city with a park, but a park with a city" and in fact the "Park der Ilm" is more than a park, but an opportunity to conjugate a large city movement with the occupation of free time in a quiet natural space, marking its extraordinary beauty from the landscape point of view and its own dimension. It is in the center of the park that is the Goethe holiday home, currently one of the many museums that the city seeks to preserve and monetize.

É particularmente conhecida pelos grandes nomes da cultura alemã que aqui viveram nos tempos do Romantismo e o Sturm und Drang: Goethe e Schiller, entre outros, mas também, mais tarde Nietzsche, este último quando já atormentado pela loucura. No edifício do teatro, situado no Theaterplatz foi proclamada a República de Weimar. Goethe escreveu sobre esta cidade dizendo que "Weimar não é uma cidade com um parque, mas um parque com uma cidade" e de facto o "Park der Ilm" é mais do que um parque, mas uma oportunidade de conjugação entre uma cidade em grande movimento com a ocupação de tempos livres num espaço natural pacato, demarcando-se pela sua beleza extraordinária do ponto de vista paisagístico e da sua própria dimensão. É no centro do parque que se encontra a casa de férias de Goethe, actualmente um dos muitos núcleos museológicos que a cidade procura preservar e rentabilizar.
