Community of Nations

Comunitatea Națiunilor

The Commonwealth Commonwealth, commonly known as the Commonwealth, is an intergovernmental organization of 53 independent member states. Except Rwanda and Mozambique, all these countries were originally part of the British Empire, of which the latter formed. No Commonwealth government "exercises power over one another, as is the case in a political union. Rather, relations between the governments of the Community are characteristic of an international organization through which countries with different social, political and economic conditions are treated as equal in status and cooperate within a framework of common values and objectives as outlined in the Declaration from Singapore. These include the promotion of democracy, human rights, the rule of law, individual freedom, egalitarianism, free trade of multilateralism and world peace. These objectives are met through multilateral projects and meetings, as in the Commonwealth Games, which take place every four years.
