ETYMOLOGY OF THE WORD GÎZĂ

gîză (gấze), s. f.1. Insectă. – 2. Lighioană, vietate. – Var. ghiză. Creație expresivă, bazată pe imitarea zumzăitului, cf. bîză, și sl. g(ŭ)myžĭ „insectă”. După Cihac, II, 120 și Scriban, din pol. giez, care pare mai puțin probabil. Candrea, Elemente, 406, presupune că trebuie să se plece de la un vb. imitativ *gîzîi, format ca bîzîi.Der. gîzulie, gîjulie, gujulie, gîzoabă, s. f. (insectă). Din rom. provine rut. gadzulja „gîndac” (Candrea, Elemente, 406).
